Why You Should Get a DAS Pass When Visiting Disney With a Child on the Autism Spectrum
Planning a trip to Disney is always exciting, but for families who have a child with special needs, it can also feel overwhelming. Between the crowds, long lines, and sensory stimulation, the “most magical place on Earth” can sometimes be a bit much. Thankfully, Disney’s Disability Access Service (DAS) Pass helps make the parks more enjoyable and accessible for everyone.
Our son, who is now 11, has been to Disney four times, and each visit has been smoother and happier because of the DAS pass. He’s on the autism spectrum and also has ADHD, which means long waits and crowded queues can be difficult. He tends to get fidgety and sometimes tries to elope when he feels overstimulated — something many parents of children with autism can relate to.
How the DAS Pass Helps
The DAS pass is designed to provide guests with disabilities, including those with developmental or sensory needs, a more accessible park experience. Instead of waiting in traditional lines, guests using DAS can select a ride, receive a return time, and come back later to enjoy the attraction.
This flexibility allows families to take breaks, enjoy other parts of the park, or find quieter spaces while waiting — helping children stay calm and comfortable throughout the day. It removes a lot of the stress that comes with long waits and makes the experience far more enjoyable for everyone.
How to Set Up a DAS Pass
The setup process is simple and can be done before your trip. Once your park tickets are linked in your My Disney Experience account, Disney will invite you to schedule a video chat with a Cast Member.
During the video call, you’ll be asked about your child’s diagnosis and why the DAS pass would help. The Cast Members are kind, patient, and understanding — they genuinely want to make your trip magical.
You’ll receive an answer right away if approved.
Our Experience
Every time we’ve used the DAS pass, our son’s Disney experience has been calmer, more joyful, and full of the magic that Disney is known for. He’s able to enjoy his favorite rides without feeling anxious or overwhelmed, and we can focus on creating memories instead of managing stress.
Disney truly goes above and beyond to make its parks inclusive for every guest. If you’re traveling with a child who has autism or other special needs, I can’t recommend the DAS pass enough. It’s easy to set up, simple to use, and it transforms your family’s Disney vacation.
